Cream fondant
Cream fondant is a candy made from water or milk, sugar, and an aroma, such as vanilla or cocoa. It is usually eaten during the period around Sinterklaas. In the days when sugar in the Netherlands was only made from sugar cane, which grew far away and had to be hauled up by ships, sugar was an expensive product. Therefore, it was only used at grand celebrations, such as weddings or the Sinterklaas feast. Special sugar bakers took care of processing the sugar into sugar bears, hearts and so on.
