Bolletje wholemeal rusk is eaten for breakfast most commonly with fresh strawberries, butter and jam, sprinkles or cheese. In the Netherlands it is also a tradition that "beschuit met muisjes" are eaten when a child is born. The muisjes are then in pink or blue.
